On hot days there are three options: the pool on our plot, about 300 metres from the cottages; the river Alberche at Navalosa and Navalacruz; or the river Tormes and its mountain streams in the Sierra de Gredos, both about 40 minutes away.
Our swimming pool

The Alberche: Navalosa and Navalacruz
On the other side of the Sierra de la Paramera, about 40 minutes’ drive away, the Alberche valley has two quiet places to swim:
- Navalosa: the river Alberche by La Puente, the old stone bridge, with pools for swimming and a small beach bar in summer.
- Navalacruz: the natural pool on the Cimorro stream, which flows into the Alberche. A small dam creates the swimming area, with a prepared bottom, showers, a picnic area and parking nearby. It is an official bathing area of the regional government of Castilla y León.
The river Tormes at Hoyos del Espino
In and around Hoyos del Espino there are several places to cool off in summer: the natural pool, Las Chorreras, Puente de las Juntas, Pozo de las Paredes and Valdeascas. The water comes straight down from the mountains and is cold even in August. More in Sierra de Gredos.
Before you go
- There are no lifeguards at natural swimming spots: always keep an eye on children.
- Bring water shoes: the river stones are slippery.
- Ask at the Casa del Parque visitor centre in Hoyos del Espino which swimming spots are open that summer.
- Take your rubbish with you and only park where it is allowed.
